It has been a while since we last posted on here, merely due to how busy we have been so really we should say happy New Year. From David coming runner up in the Reflect film competition to recently being shortlisted in the University of Sunderland’s Blueprint business competition we have been non stop. At the start of the year we were asked by our old college, Gateshead to be interviewed about what we have done since leaving they have written a great piece only thing wrong being our ages!  But what can you do. We have the pitch tomorrow for Blueprint so hopefully that may go well but if not onwards and upwards, expect to hear more from us this summer as we will have more time on our hands.

Exactly a wee week ago we were heading down to the Glasgow Film Theatre to submit ‘The Gent’, a film we had produced in a wee week (ok I will stop). Myself (David), Kev and Mike made the SHORT journey up to Glasgow on the Friday and drew out not a favoured genre of ours Period Piece, the problem with period is you automatically think of Downton Abbey or Pride and Prejudice so we had quite a problem on our hands…. 1. We don’t have the money to make a convincing Victorian set 2. None of us had ever been to Glasgow and 3. None of us really know much that far back in history. Thankfully however, after me giving up my fixated idea on it being the 80s Mike at about 10 30pm (I think) came up with the barebones of The Gent. We then rang actors and they all seemed quite happy, I think more so surprised. Also less importantly in our story we had to have a ring appear, a character called Norma/Norman  Mckenzie, the line ‘Do I know you’ and last but no means least a Glasgow landmark.

So after staying up until 3am writing the script we got up at 8 and Kev did some hectic phone calls securing costumes and props. We then printed our scripts (thanks McClays) but no thanks to printer for not printing very last page…. We were out filming at 12 and like typical North East weather it was raining. We dotted around Glasgow using only our feet and a few taxi rides and of course coffee breaks and lunch break and were finished by 8 pm. One special mention to the Clinton Card’s bear that didn’t run away when Joe went to shake his hand! Filming was fun, but it always is in a place you don’t know!

Editing was pretty straight forward but as was our narrative, we were very lucky to had secured local artist Simon Todd prior to the competition to allow us use of many of his tracks, any one of them just fit the bill perfectly! Highly recommend you check out his music. I used Premiere Pro cs5.5 to edit, it’s my favourite and used Magic Bullet to grade the film for letterboxing there is a great download which has tonnes of just aspect ratios…http://www.mediafire.com/?y8l6d88d2c8h81t
